Usage & Service Description
The Feathers is provided for educational and informational purposes about bird species. The application offers access to bird information, images, sounds, and related content sourced from various third-party providers.
Disclaimer: The application is provided 'as is'. While we strive for accuracy, we cannot guarantee the completeness or correctness of the bird information provided. Users should not rely solely on this app for critical decisions or scientific research without verification from authoritative sources.
Intellectual Property & Copyright
The Feathers app design, interface, features, and original content are owned by The Feathers and protected by copyright laws. However, the bird species information, images, sounds, and other media displayed in the app are sourced from third parties under various open licenses:
Wikipedia & Wikimedia Content: Content adapted from Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons is used under various Creative Commons licenses including: CC BY-SA 4.0, CC BY-SA 3.0, CC BY-SA 2.5, CC BY-SA 2.0, CC BY 4.0, CC0 1.0, and Public Domain materials.
Biometric Data: Data from AVONET is used under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0).
Audio Content: Some bird sounds are provided by the New Zealand Department of Conservation (DOC). Others come from Wikimedia Commons with attribution shown alongside each recording, and link back to the original file on Wikimedia Commons.
Images: Each image displayed in the app has its own copyright and attribution, which must be respected. You can find specific image attributions on the bird detail pages. Images may be subject to various Creative Commons licenses or other open licenses as specified in their individual attributions.
Users must respect all copyright notices and licensing terms for third-party content. When you follow an external link or download content, the linked site's terms and the license terms shown in the attribution will apply.
User Guidelines & Prohibited Behavior
When using The Feathers, you agree not to:

Account & Service Termination
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to The Feathers at any time, without prior notice, if we believe you have violated these Terms or engaged in behavior that could harm the app, other users, or third parties.
You may stop using the app at any time. Upon cessation of use or uninstallation, all locally stored data (favorites, recently viewed items) will be removed from your device.
Governing Law & Jurisdiction
These Terms and Conditions are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of New Zealand. Any disputes arising from these terms or your use of the app shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of New Zealand.
Changes to These Terms
We reserve the right to modify these Terms and Conditions at any time. When we make significant changes, we will update the "Effective Date" at the top of this page. We may also notify users through the app or via email if we have your contact information.
